He has just released a new book called
Storm Chaser, a collection of photos depicting the beauty and power of ‘mother nature’ when angry.
There are thunderstorms in the moment of formation, whirlwinds rushing by, terrifying thunder and lightning, giant dust storms…
The Phoenix, Arizona, father of three said he feels ‘very lucky to have a job where I can take my kids with me’.
‘When I started this job, it wasn’t for money or fame. I didn’t have any goals. It was all driven by passion,’ he shared.
According to the Mirror (UK), Mike became famous in 2011 after a time-lapse photo of a giant dust storm in Phoenix that he took went viral. The photo later appeared in many commercials and documentaries.
In Storm Chaser, he shares his stories and experiences as a professional storm chaser. For him, photographing lightning, tornadoes and violent storms is ‘an incredible feeling’, although the job can be ‘scary’.
He said that while taking photos, he often had to turn off the camera and run quickly into the truck to take shelter from storms and lightning.
Still, he admits he’s a big fan of storm photography, and “my favorite place to take photos is anywhere there’s a big storm.”
