“The most memorable thing about Baikal is seeing methane bubbles freeze instantly when bubbling, creating unique ice bubbles underneath the methane ice,” said Le Vu, one of the most impressive things he saw when exploring Lake Baikal in winter. Winter comes and turns this place into an icy paradise. The lake is 1,642m deep and will be covered with a very thick layer of ice on its surface. The flora and fauna of Lake Baikal are extremely rich, with more than 2,500 species of flora and fauna, of which two-thirds are endemic. Among them are rare animals such as the Baikal nerpa seal and the Golomianka fish, also known as the Baikal oil fish. This fish has a transparent body and does not lay eggs but gives birth to young.
