Prohodna Cave has an interesting feature: two large eye-shaped holes in the ceiling right in the middle of the cave. It is not clear when these holes were formed, but they are locally called “God’s Eyes” or sometimes “Devil’s Eyes”, and have appeared in many movies.
The cave has a gate cave, one end is 45m and the other is 35m, 262m apart. Prohodna is the largest cave in Bulgaria and is often used for adventure activities such as bungee jumping. It was inhabited by tribes in prehistoric times. Archaeologists have found many relics among the rocks.
The rocks that make up the cave are mainly limestone, gypsum and sediment. Wind and rain have eroded the path and created two large eye-shaped holes. On stormy days, if you stand at the right angle, you can see two eyes “crying”. The rocks worn down the wall form the beard of a large face. When the sky is clear, the two eyes seem to glow and shine down on the cave floor.
The most interesting thing is that on full moon nights, the moon will form a pupil looking down into the cave. This is the reason why many visitors feel like they are being watched by gods or demons.
